Be Grateful - For the Talents of Others

The last life lessons featured in the book, My Kids Know More Than Me! is to be grateful. Ironically, the first feelings I need to express in regard to my book is my tremendous gratitude towards the talented individuals who made my book became a reality.

Getting my manuscript from the first word written to the printed book was challenging but rewarding. The stories came quickly and my thoughts flowed easily as I wrote the words. However, getting the manuscript from the first draft to the final product (16th version) was difficult and time consuming. Karen, the professional editor of the book, contributed immensely to the readability of the book. She certainly saved me from many embarrassing grammatical mistakes and awkward sentences. Nancy of Wyatt-MacKenzie Publishing created a beautiful layout and that made my stories come alive. I am grateful for Karen and Nancy’s support, assistance and encouragement.

What I have discovered is that writing, editing, and finalizing the book layout is easier than marketing the book to potential buyers – parents, adoptees, and foster children. Wyatt-MacKenzie Publishing provided me with valuable guidance and advice on how to market my book. The actual work of marketing was up to me. I’m a social worker not a public relation specialist. I had no idea how to tackle the complexity of the media. I was overwhelmed and paralyzed by the tasks that lay ahead.

I am not tech savvy. I had no idea how to set up a website. I was not a Facebook user. I heard of Twitter but had no idea how it worked. My sixteen hear old daughter came to my rescue. She is a creative talent and as most teenagers is a social media expert. I watched in awe as she created a beautiful website that reflected our family and the intent of the book, My Kids Know More Than Me!

Check out her amazing work here. She also put together an interesting Facebook page that I am trying to understanding and use on Facebook. Her Twitter account @mykidsknow is a great platform for comments regarding adoption and foster care.

I am incredibly grateful for the talents of Karen, Nancy, and my daughter Rose. It is only with their abilities that I am able to launch my book on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2017. I am grateful. Thank you.
